U box, the mobile home that builds on its own

28 August 2017

If six prototypes were tested, a salt was built to full size. Although plans conforming to European standards have been stopped, Ten Fold has so far lacked manufacturers and distributors.

Optimists, they announce on their site deliveries abroad by the end of 2018 - earlier in Europe and the United States, where they are already working on adapting to US standards.

As for the price, it should have been announced on their site at the end of July but still nothing. It is only known that this will vary between countries and manufacturers, and that it should decline when large-scale production is launched.

It is based on a lever technology that can be transferred to other structures.

Good news: today there is an eco-friendly house that can be built on its own in ten minutes and that can be taken (almost) everywhere. All that the Ten Fold U box needs is enough space to unfold, and a flat floor.

Then you have the structure of 64sqm (plus 20 storage) which has nothing to envy the traditional structures. Planned to be connected to the water and electricity distribution network, it can in some cases operate in a closed circuit. If the kitchen and the bathroom are not equipped, two dedicated spaces are provided for, that only needs to be done.

"Energy saving counter-balance effect"

Behind this revolution, a technology with a barbaric name, but with simplistic functioning. The roofs are mounted in a horizontal position by a winch or counterbalance operated once the button is engaged. By gravity and with the help of a slight electrical current (about ten volts), the lateral extensions move outwards. The levers, suspended from the central frame, support the entire weight of the floor and the walls.

During the operation, a wired winch slows down and controls the movement: no risk of being surprised or causing a shock. The engineers ensure that it is physically impossible to be crushed by a return of balance, since the house only folds back via a winch mechanism.

The use of this technology is multiple: scenes, bridges, shops, hospitals, barriers, shelter, nacelle, solar panels, ... Any structure that needs to be mounted quickly and move could benefit from Ten Fold technology.

Because once folded, the box holds in a truck, requires no worker or foundation, is loaded and ready to be used, at the same time as "modular and adjustable at leisure from a basic, easy chassis Use and maintain, "according to the company's website.

According to the engineers of Ten Fold, the U box will offer many and not inconsiderable advantages: saving time, security, space, money and manpower. In theory at least.
